Sustainability, Minimalism, Customisable. This became the refrain in the process of creating the furniture pieces for the ERIK JØRGENSEN X SNØHETTA collection named ‘Casework’. A series of lounge furniture made with extra focus on the use of sustainable materials and craftsmanship.
During the 2020’s edition of the Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair the first piece of design from the ERIK JØRGENSEN X SNØHETTA ‘Casework’ collection will be launched. In the Erik Jørgensen showroom, located in Stockholm city, the guests can discover the new sofain a light oak edition upholstered in elegant wool or a natural tan leather.
The ERIK JØRGENSEN X SNØHETTA ‘Casework’ is conceived to be customisable. Together the two parties have developed a series of design inspired by how casework furniture is created for various spaces, where focus is how the furniture is tailored to its purpose and its surroundings. The sofa consists of a wooden frame and soft voluminous cushions. In addition to being customisable the series also have minimalistic manner as a focal point. The collection’s design is characterized by strict lines with a rounded finish and inviting cushions, features that emphasisesa Scandinavian design expression. Purity in form, coupled with customisability results in a series that fits effortlessly in a variety of environments.
The creation of the sofa takes place both in the studio in Oslo and the Erik Jørgensen manufactory in the small Danish town Svendborg on the Island of Funen. Here numerous design classics have been created through the years with the highest level of craftmanship, and the pieces of ERIK JØRGENSEN X SNØHETTA ‘Casework’ will be no exception. A thorough manufacturing and honest materials ensures furniture with a long lifetime.
To ease production, the sofa’s frame structure can be prefabricated, and customized panels rapidly mounted on demand in the factory. An adjustable end to the sofa’s legs makes it easy to compensate for uneven floors in re-purposed spaces. The side and back panels are easily mounted in production to speed up delivery time, and enables architects and designers to choose from a wide variety of fabric and material finishes to suit their requirements.
The Danish and the Norwegian design practice joined forces for the first time back in 2017. Here they, together with Wallpaper* Handmade, created Portal – a design which merged artistic vision with traditional furniture craftsmanship. This time around the collaboration is less of an art installation and more of an actual piece of furniture, which opens the possibility of bringing the Erik Jørgensen x Snøhetta vision and craftsmanship into private homes and offices. The rest of the ERIK JØRGENSEN X SNØHETTA ‘Casework’ collection will be revealed this year.
